How it Works

It always seems like there is something to work on, one or more unfinished projects piling up. You know you could finish it if only you had a bigger block of time, or one more day where you didn’t have to clear your project off the table for a meal, or your pieces didn’t keep walking off in little hands, or …

This is that bigger block of time. This is where you can leave your project out and not have to worry about missing pieces or interruptions. It is the perfect spot to make some progress, enjoy a peaceful place while catching up with friends

We know each group will have different needs and preferences and each retreat will be unique. Below are some ideas from other groups that may help get some ideas going as you plan your retreat.

Suggestions

Schedule

  • Many groups schedule Friday through Sunday: checking in Friday at 10am, and checking out Sunday at 12noon.

  • Consider coming in on Thursday night or staying till Monday. Once you get everything set up and start working on a project, it is nice to have just a little extra time.

  • You may want to make a week of it and have people come and go as their schedule allows.

Create

You may want to consider some of the following when planning activities for your retreat:

  • Invite each participant brings their own project to work on while they are there.

  • Have one of the group or a “guest” teacher, teach a skill or craft. This may be something everyone works on the whole retreat, or something everyone takes time to learn or listen to and then return to their own project.

  • There are 18 workstations that are set up in clusters, each participant can set up at their table, and get started!

Food

  • Pair people up and assign a meal to feed the group. They can bring the supplies to prepare the meal, cook the meal and clean up the meal. Depending on your group size as well as how long you stay, each participant may only have to prepare one meal the whole time they are there!!

  • Have everyone bring a snack to share for the weekend.

  • A small grocery store, Three Bears, is nearby so you can get any forgotten items, however bringing ingredients with you will be more affordable.

Connection

  • Consider having some deeper discussions while having dinner. Prepare thoughtful questions to invite conversation.

  • Write notes of appreciation to others in your group.

  • Play group games in the evenings or watch a fun movie together.

Peace and Relaxation

  • Take some time to read a book, play a game, or put out a puzzle to work on throughout the retreat.

  • Hire someone to come in and do nails or massages.

  • The house has a steam shower, a whirlpool tub, and a hot tub. Use them!

  • Enjoy the quiet outdoors: lay in the hammock, go for a walk, take some time to look up at the stars.
