How it all began.

Years ago, my sister in law invited my sister and I to a "Craft Retreat" in the lower 48. I had never been to one, let alone heard of one. However, I thought it sounded like fun, so I packed my suitcases and away I went.

At the time I was in the middle of 19,000 projects, but really wanted to get some of my scrapbooking done as it had been staring in my face for probably 10 years. I packed up paper, pictures, glue, scissors, accoutrements, stickers, pens, markers, my laptop and away I went.

The house wasn't overly big, it had a small corner kitchen and several bedrooms set up with various number of beds in each room. The living room was set up as the project space with everyone having their own table. It wasn't particularly remarkable. What was remarkable was what came from the experience and because of that, I loved that house.

I did not know anyone there outside my sister-in-law and a few of her family members. They had 17 people there, a group that had started with moms that were friends, then over the years as their children grew up, the group expanded to include them and other friends that they had met. There was one woman who brought her young baby and we took turns holding her so she could work on her projects as well as get some much needed rest. It was women supporting each other.

We all worked on our own projects, there was someone sewing, someone cutting for quilts, another knitting, another making cards, one person had brought her computer and was scanning pictures, one person was doing homework and others had various projects that they brought to work on. We shared ideas (I learned of a tape gun and immediately went and purchased one), we gave each other feedback and encouragement, talked, listened and created. I went not knowing hardly anyone and left feeling closely connected to many that were there, feeling more closely connected to those that I knew and being away from my daily life allowed me to connect with myself and reset.

When I got back to Alaska, I told everyone about this experience and within a month had a working list of all that would be needed to start a retreat here. As I thought about it more, I thought of the many different kinds of retreats that people could take advantage of; craft retreat, project retreat, yoga retreat, cooking retreat, etc. I talked to my brother about partnering with me and now, 5 years later, here we are. We looked a long time to find something that could accommodate for it all and we found it. We are so excited to be able to create a space for people to gather and utilize.

Come stay. Create. Connect. Relax and Reset.
